Individuals engaging with MTAG experience a culture and range of tools and strategies, and an emphasis on values that equips them to be physically and mentally prepared for opportunities.
By implementing MTAG resources, strategies, and values into their lives, MTAG participants are well prepared for life after basketball. They can overcome barriers and thrive as students, performers, and valued members of their community.
Our Story
In 2012, More Than A Game began its mission with a passionate group of individuals united by the goal of creating a positive impact on young people through basketball. Our team consisted of educators, basketball coaches, and youth advocates. While basketball is commonly recognized as a sport, More Than A Game recognized an opportunity to prepare young people for life beyond the court. With shared values between life and basketball, our commitment remained consistent in nurturing champions on and off the court.
More Than A Game leveraged basketball as a tool to develop and provide resources for young people. Through a range of offerings including workshops, tailored programming, and community support, MTAG has championed the cause of over 2,000 students in the Grand Rapids area. Our efforts have also contributed to an impressive 97% graduation rate among participating young people who participate for four years.
