preview-flint hamady vs benton harbor

While the records of both teams in the opening game of the 10th annual 2K Showcase may spark curiosity among basketball fans, they will soon find that both teams match up well.

The Benton Harbor Tigers are no stranger to the showcase spotlight, marking its impressive 7th appearance in the 2K Showcase. The Tigers boast a history of playing in some of the most memorable games in the event's past decade. Flint Hamady is stepping onto the 2K Showcase stage for the first time, bringing a new energy to the event.

Flint Hamady has showcased their potential as a team throughout the season against two of the state's top 15 teams in D1 (Warren De LaSalle and Saginaw Heritage). Despite stumbling in their recent 4-game skid (5-6), the unsigned senior, Ja’Kobie Boose, continues to spearhead the charge for the Hawks. Sophomores Demetruis Selvie and Jody Jackson, have made significant contributions during their first stint on varsity.

The Tigers of Benton Harbor come in ranked as the #3 team in the latest Division 2 AP poll (14-0). Benton Harbor continues to stay in the mix at the top even without the likes of the greats Wilson Chandler or Scooby Johnson on their current roster. The Tigers are anchored by the trio of unsigned seniors Antwan Callahan, Mustapha Muhammad, and Josiah King.

Both teams bring an up tempo style to the court. As the game unfolds, the battle for control over tempo down the stretch will be a key factor to winning the game.

As both squads navigate the dog days of the season, both Flint Hamady and Benton Harbor are set to provide each other with a mid-season test. Coach Lamont Torbert and Flint Hamady look to build momentum before the tournament time, while Coach Corey Sterling and the Tigers continue to uphold their winning tradition.
